Ice Cups

02.19.05 Saturday

Still some movement in the ever-changing Southern Conference and the uber-competitive Mennen Division. The cup playoffs ought to prove a lot, especially with Toms River North’s last hurrah and what should be phenomenal competition in the Gordon and Mennen Cups. These will be the last rankings until after the divisional cup tournaments.

Top 20 (records as available through 2/18/05)

  1—CBA (19-2-2, 15-2-1 Gordon) Last Week – 1

Anything less than the Gordon Cup final is a major disappointment.

  2—Delbarton (15-1-6, 12-1-5 Gordon) Last Week – 2

Only one loss, but a semifinal matchup with rival SHP should be huge.

  3—Seton Hall Prep (11-6-4, 10-4-4 Gordon) Last Week – 3

Loss to Fairfield Prep surprisingly lopsided, but never count SHP out in the postseason.

  4—Bergen Catholic (11-8-3, 8-7-3 Gordon) Last Week – 5

Need to prove 5-1 win over DBP was no fluke.

  5—Don Bosco Prep (12-9-1, 12-5-1 Gordon) Last Week – 4

Deserved third seed for whole season but BC loss should not happen.

  6—St. Peter’s Prep (9-6-6, 6-6-6 Gordon) Last Week – 6

Gotta love its 6-6-6 finish but not its postseason chances.

  7—Morristown-Beard (17-3-3, 10-1-2 MCSSIHL Mennen) Last Week – 7

Great win to break the PDS hold on the NJISAA championship. Now for the real ones.

  8—Morris Knolls (16-2-3, 10-1-2 MCSSIHL Mennen) Last Week – 9

15-1 drubbing of Jefferson harsh but necessary for preferable semifinal matchup.

  9—Ridge (16-3-1, 10-2 Central Red) Last Week – 8

Red Devils need to keep it all together down the stretch.

10—Randolph (14-5-1, 9-4 MCSSIHL Mennen) Last Week – 11

Can’t count the Rams out with their combination of speed and experience.

11—Chatham (15-5, 8-5 MCSSIHL Mennen) Last Week – 10

Stock has fallen, but nobody wants to see them in the playoffs.

12—Middletown North (13-6-2, 9-2-1 Southern Red) Last Week – 12

Lions need big cup performances against privates SA and BE.

13—St. John Vianney (7-11-3, 5-10-3 Gordon) Last Week – 13

Lions beat RBC and Middletown South in Shore A action.

14—Red Bank Catholic (17-5, 9-3 Southern White) Last Week – 14

Caseys earn respect with close performances against Gordon schools.

15—St. Augustine Prep (10-6-2, 8-3-1 Southern Red) Last Week – 20

Hermits haven’t won a big game in a while, but did hand Notre Dame its first loss.

16—Notre Dame (20-1, 13-0 CVC Colonial) Last Week – 15

Irish should recover to earn another MCT title, but can they win a state game?

17—Bishop Eustace (12-6, 11-1 Southern Red) Last Week – 16

Which team will show up for the playoffs?

18—Old Bridge (19-2-1, 10-0 Southern Blue) Last Week – NR

First Blue Division team ever to be ranked. Can’t argue with success.

19—Toms River North (16-3-1, 10-1-1 Southern White) Last Week – 18

6-1 to Old Bridge? Mariners should have sense of urgency in final two games.

20—Pope John (7-11-3, 5-10-3 Gordon) Last Week – 17

No impressive non-league wins hold Lions back.
