02.13.06 Monday

For the unaware and/or uninitiated, for the purpose of these rankings, White/Blue teams include the White and Blue Divisions of the NJIHL, the entire NBIAL, the Haas and Charette Divisions of the MCSSIHL, the Valley and Patriot Divisions of the CVC, and all NJSIAA independents.

Top 20 (records as available through 2/12/06)

  1 — Montgomery (18-2, 11-0 Central White) Last Week – 1

         This Week: 2/15 @ SJMet

The true class of the White/Blue Divisions this year, Montgomery will be back in the Red ranks next year.

  2 — Hillsborough (19-3, 11-0 Central Blue) Last Week – 2

         This Week: idle

And you have to think the Raiders will make a two-division jump to join them in the Red. Wessex and Cranford should drop.

  3 — Ramapo (15-3-2, 13-1-1 NBIAL) Last Week – 3

This Week: 2/13 @ Rmsy, 2/16 vs. NH

Tonight’s game is an obviously big one, although the Rams have more to play for.

  4 — Ridgewood (14-1-3, 9-0-1 Northern White) Last Week – 5

         This Week: 2/18 vs. Para

All accounts have the Maroons fortuitous winners over Ramsey, but they played a strong schedule and deserve this spot.

  5 — Ramsey (13-5-3, 10-3-3 NBIAL) Last Week – 4

This Week: 2/13 vs. Rmpo, 2/18 vs. OT

Rams still might finish behind Fair Lawn in regular-season standings, although they will be slight favorites for NBIAL Division II title.

  6 — Indian Hills (14-3-4, 12-1-4 NBIAL) Last Week – 6

         This Week: 2/17 @ Cli, 2/18 @ Dem

You have to respect 36 NBIAL games with only one loss if the Braves can take care of Demarest Saturday.

  7 — Gloucester Catholic (8-2-1, 8-2-1 Southern White) Last Week – 8

         This Week: Wall make-up?

I know nothing about this team. But you have to hope they get some money for a non-league schedule next year.

  8 — Old Bridge (11-5-3, 6-2-3 Southern White) Last Week – 7

         This Week: 2/13 @ Bri

Maybe Gloucester Catholic needs a scouting budget, too; Old Bridge suffers a 5-2 loss after winning first meeting 6-1.

  9 — Fair Lawn (15-4-1, 11-4-1 NBIAL) Last Week – 10

         This Week: 2/14 vs. OT (Mackay), 2/15 @ MKA, 2/17 @ PkV

The Cutters! One of the best nicknames in the state. Fair … Lawn Cutters. Get it? Oh yeah, they also tied Indian Hills.

10 — Brick Township (6-8-3, 5-3-2 Southern White) Last Week – 9

This Week: 2/13 vs. OB, 2/19 vs. TRS, BM make-up?

Green Dragons really could’ve used that TRS game before the cut-off date; could miss their first public state tournament ever.

11 — Wall (11-4-6, 4-3-4 Southern White) Last Week – 12

         This Week: 2/13 @ WWPS, GC make-up?

Are they the Knights or the Crimson Knights? Either way, Wall tied Old Bridge and could finish third in a tough division.

12 — Toms River East (9-10-2, 4-7-1 Southern White) Last Week – 11

         This Week: 2/13 @ TRS, 2/17 @ RBC

Must-win game today for the Raiders, who have not made the state tournament since 2001.

13 — Northern Highlands (10-6-3, 7-6-2 NBIAL) Last Week – 13

         This Week: 2/16 @ Rmpo, 2/17 @ WayH, Mah make-up?

Consistent No. 5 in the NBIAL and tied Ramsey a few weeks back. So they’re better than Bishop Eustace, right?

14 — Watchung Hills (10-9, 9-3 Central White) Last Week – 15

         This Week: idle

Might be the best team you’ve never heard of. Seven of nine losses to teams ranked in the overall top 20.

15 — Montclair-Kimberley (8-9-2, 6-4-1 Central White) Last Week – 14

This Week: 2/15 vs. FL, 2/18 @ Ber

Unfortunate Cougars miss states due to NJISAA loss to PDS; split with Watchung Hills but finished third.

16 — Rumson/Fair Haven (8-9-4, 3-6-3 Southern White) Last Week – 16

This Week: 2/13 vs. TRN, Sthrn make-up?

Ineligible for the state tournament since December, it has been a trying season for the Bulldogs.

17 — Park Regional (13-4-3, 11-1-1 MCSSIHL Charette) Last Week – 17

This Week: 2/18 vs. Mtville (Haas Cup quarterfinals)

I would’ve enjoyed a more challenging schedule from this bunch, but they are slight favorites to repeat as Haas Cup champions.

18 — Mount Olive (12-5, 9-3 MCSSIHL Charette) Last Week – 18

This Week: 2/13 vs. ParH, 2/17 vs. Peq (Haas Cup quarterfinals)

Marauders had nothing to play for against Madison but should be a major threat in the Haas Cup tournament.

19 — Madison (12-5, 8-5 MCSSIHL Charette) Last Week – NR

This Week: 2/13 @ West, 2/18 vs. Kin (Haas Cup quarterfinals)

This is where the MCSSIHL might want to get a clue and promote these three teams to the Haas Division.

20 — Westfield (8-8-4, 3-5-3 Central White) Last Week – 19

This Week: 2/13 vs. Mad, 2/15 @ SB

Blue Devils really should’ve switched the dates of their games this week. Ah, scheduling.

Dropped Out:

No. 20 Pequannock (8-7-4, 6-4-3 MCSSIHL Haas)
