02.06.06 Monday

Not a lot of movement at the top this week, but the Nos. 5-10 public spots are hotly contested and could be very controversial come seeding time. Really, anything after the top four public seeds is completely up for grabs. Delbarton, Pope John, Morris Knolls, and CBA all backed up their rankings this week, among others.

Top 20 (records as available through 2/5/06)

  1 — Seton Hall Prep (13-0-2, 11-0-2 Gordon) Last Week – 1

         This Week: 2/12 @ SPP

Pirates can wrap up first-ever unbeaten Gordon season with a win Sunday.

  2 — Delbarton (9-5-2, 7-4-2 Gordon) Last Week – 2

This Week: 2/7 vs. MB, 2/11 vs. SA

After a good win Friday, Green Wave will look to stay on track with a pair of intriguing non-league games.

  3 — Pope John (9-4-4, 5-4-4 Gordon) Last Week – 3

This Week: 2/9 @ Pin, 2/10 vs. SPP, 2/12 vs. MK

Lions 4-1-1 in their last six Gordon games but cannot finish higher than third.

  4 — Don Bosco Prep (9-6-1, 6-5-1 Gordon) Last Week – 4

         This Week: 2/6 @ SPP, 2/10 @ North Quincy (Mass.), 2/11 @ St. John’s Shrewsbury (Mass.)

Ironmen have been very inconsistent of late but could still finish second in the division.

  5 — Bishop Eustace (11-4-2, 7-2-1 Southern Red) Last Week – 5

This Week: 2/7 @ HC, 2/10 vs. SA

Crusaders are unbeaten in nine consecutive games heading into Friday’s grudge match with St. Augustine Prep.

  6 — Morris Knolls (16-2-1, 10-1-1 MCSSIHL Mennen) Last Week – 6

         This Week: 2/6 @ HC, 2/12 @ PJ

Golden Eagles clinched second consecutive Mennen Division title and face a tough test Sunday against Pope John.

  7 — Morristown-Beard (14-3, 9-3 MCSSIHL Mennen) Last Week – 7

This Week: 2/6 vs. Hun, 2/7 @ Del

It has been 12 years and 33 games since the Crimson have beaten nemesis Delbarton, including six Mennen Cup final losses.

  8 — St. Peter’s Prep (8-5-4, 2-4-4 Gordon) Last Week – 12

This Week: 2/6 vs. DBP, 2/10 @ PJ, 2/12 vs. SHP

A huge week for the Marauders, who impressed by tying Delbarton and dominating Bergen Catholic 5-1.

  9 — St. John Vianney (8-7-1, 4-6-1 Gordon) Last Week – 8

         This Week: 2/8 @ CBA, 2/12 @ BC

Wednesday’s game is crucial for the Lancers, who still have to make up a contest with Don Bosco Prep.

10 — CBA (5-6-7, 1-6-6 Gordon) Last Week – 11

This Week: 2/8 vs. SJV, 2/9 @ MidN

Colts improved to 3-0 against Southern Red teams with wins over St. Augustine Prep and Red Bank Catholic last week.

11 — Randolph (11-4-2, 8-3 MCSSIHL Mennen) Last Week – 13

This Week: 2/6 vs. MH, 2/8 vs. Rid

Rams finally found some offense in the second half of games against Beard and Chatham.

12 — Bergen Catholic (2-10-4, 2-9-2 Gordon) Last Week – 9

         This Week: 2/12 vs. SJV

I really thought they’d play closer with St. Peter’s Prep.

13 — St. Augustine Prep (11-3, 10-1 Southern Red) Last Week – 10

         This Week: 2/10 @ BE, 2/11 @ Del

A tough week ahead for the Hermits, who did clinch the Southern Red regular-season title.

14 — Montgomery (16-1, 10-0 Central White) Last Week – 14

This Week: 2/7 vs. Hboro, 2/8 @ WatH, 2/10 vs. HV

Not an easy week for the Cougars, but they could run their win streak to 18 consecutive games.

15 — Hillsborough (19-1, 11-0 Central Blue) Last Week – 15

This Week: 2/7 @ Mtgry, 2/10 vs. BR

The Raiders should be at full strength for Tuesday’s rematch of the Somerset County Tournament championship.

16 — Bridgewater-Raritan (13-5-1, 10-0-1 Central Red) Last Week – NR

         This Week: 2/8 @ SJMet, 2/10 @ Hboro

The rankings got really difficult at this point, so I had to rethink some stuff … all five losses are to higher-ranked teams.

17 — Chatham (14-4-1, 8-3-1 MCSSIHL Mennen) Last Week – 16

         This Week: 2/8 @ SB

Still only two ‘plus’ results on their schedule, and both were against the same team.

18 — Toms River North (11-6-1, 5-5-1 Southern Red) Last Week – 18

This Week: 2/7 vs. Bri, 2/9 @ MidS

Mariners only division team to drop a point to Middletown North all season.

19 — Clifton (13-2-4, 7-2-2 Northern Red) Last Week – NR

         This Week: 2/10 vs. Para

I’m sticking my neck out here a bit, but at least they’ve been winning.

20 — Ridge (11-4-3, 6-2-2 Central Red) Last Week – NR

         This Week: 2/6 @ WE, 2/8 @ Ran, 2/11 vs. WE

Red Devils ought to finish second in the Central Red and beat Old Bridge last week.

No. 17 Old Bridge (10-4-2, 6-1-2 Southern White)

No. 19 Monsignor Donovan (7-7-2, 5-5-2 Southern Red)
